- World has launched World ID for banking and finance, a set of identity checks for banks and asset managers, naming VanEck Funds, Pantera Capital, Bain Capital, OpenExchange and Outtake as its first design partners, the project said.
- The offer bundles the World ID app, beta tools that let AI agents act for a verified person, and a Zoom integration that marks verified humans in meetings.
World co-founder Alex Blania unveiled the product on stage at the Money20/20 payments conference in Las Vegas, the project said in an announcement dated 18 Oct.
The app offers three checks. Proof of Human, obtained with a one-time scan at one of World’s Orb devices, shows a person is real and unique.
Proof of Presence is a liveness check on a phone. Proof of Attributes confirms details such as age or nationality from a government ID without sharing the document, according to the announcement.
World said banks could use the checks to approve ACH and wire transfers and to secure account recovery against takeovers. World says over 18 million people have obtained a Proof of Human, and it has Orbs at the New York Stock Exchange.
Agents and video calls
AgentKit, a developer kit in beta, lets a person delegate a proof to an AI agent so the agent can transact while showing it acts for a verified human, World said. In the Zoom integration, a verified participant gets a “Human Badge” on their video tile, and World says meeting hosts will be able to make the badge a condition of entry.
World’s pitch cites a Deloitte estimate that AI-enabled fraud losses in the US would hit $40 billion in 2027, against an estimated $12.3 billion in 2023, and a 2024 case in which an Arup employee wired about $25.6 million after a call with deepfaked colleagues. Decrypt also reported the launch on Monday.
Agents handling crypto have already caused problems in testing: on 16 Oct CryptoWatchDesk reported on an OpenAI research model that spent test ether from a wallet found via a public seed. For another bank move this week, see JPMorgan’s deposit token moving to Ethereum.
WLD was trading at $0.508, up 5.7% in 24 hours, as of 14:03 UTC, according to CoinGecko.
World has not said when the first partner will use the checks with customers.
