- Payments company Mesh and World Liberty Financial (WLFI) said on Wednesday that the USD1 stablecoin will become spendable at “millions of merchants globally” through Mesh’s network, with the rollout planned for this quarter.
- WLFI co-founder Zak Folkman said the company plans to offer the same technology to “some of the largest Web2 businesses”. No partner has been named.
Mesh chief executive Bam Azizi announced the partnership on stage at TOKEN2049 in Singapore, alongside WLFI chief executive Zach Witkoff and Folkman, Mesh said on X. USD1 is also joining the Mesh Alliance Program, the company said.

WLFI is a crypto venture backed by US President Donald Trump’s family, Cointelegraph reported. USD1 is a dollar stablecoin issued by BitGo, with reserves in cash, US government money market funds and other cash equivalents, according to the same report.

USD1 had about $4.47 billion in circulation at the start of Wednesday, according to DefiLlama.
How USD1 would reach checkouts
The announcement did not name merchants, say which currency merchants would receive at settlement, or set out fees. Mesh’s post describes the scope only as “millions of merchants globally”.
“Beyond the use of the World Liberty app itself, we are already in plans to roll out this exact same technology to some of the largest Web2 businesses that are in the marketplace,” Folkman said during the panel, according to Cointelegraph.
What it changes for users and merchants: nothing yet. Until the rollout starts, USD1 holders cannot spend through Mesh’s network, and no merchant list or launch date has been published.
The trust bank behind the plan
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) granted WLFI’s planned national trust bank preliminary conditional approval on 14 Aug. It must still meet pre-opening conditions before it can operate. Witkoff said the charter would let WLFI take over USD1 issuance from BitGo. “Today we’re issuing through BitGo,” he said, according to Cointelegraph.

The next step to watch is the Mesh rollout itself, which the companies have scheduled for this quarter, ending 31 Dec.
