- The map: $80,828, Thursday’s high so far, then Wednesday’s $81,180 overhead; $80,190, then $80,000, below.
A wild Wednesday. A quiet Thursday so far.
Wednesday’s First Print caught bitcoin at $75,625 in the 03:00 UTC hour, its lowest since mid-September, then a climb back above $77,000 as US race calls landed. The rest of the day kept going.
From the low to $81,180
Wednesday’s Kraken range was $75,625 to $81,179.6. The close was $80,440.8 on about 4,498 BTC of volume, the heaviest daily print in this stretch.
Put simply, the market took the election-night washout, then spent the US session putting $80,000 back underneath the price. That is a level reclaim, not a trend call.
Overnight into Thursday Europe the tape flattened. Hourly closes from 00:00 through 03:00 UTC sat between about $80,470 and $80,610. The only dip worth marking was $80,190.1 in the 01:00 hour.
Ether was near $2,427, Solana near $96.24 and XRP near $1.31 on Kraken at the same stamp.
Leverage stayed out of the way
Deribit bitcoin perpetual open interest was about $663 million at 04:49 UTC, a touch below Wednesday morning’s $667 million. Funding on Deribit was flat. Binance and OKX perpetual funding stayed small and positive.
DVOL, Deribit’s one-month implied volatility index, was near 38, little changed from Wednesday.
CoinGecko’s snapshot had bitcoin dominance near 59.6% and total crypto market value up about 2.3% over 24 hours, reflecting Wednesday’s rebound more than Thursday’s open.
Do not confuse a held handle with a cleared ceiling. $84,250 — the level this desk still uses for the Brief mood — last saw a daily close on 6 Oct. Every hourly close in the last four hours is still well below it.
Chart to watch
$80,000 from above. A clean break back under it on rising volume would reopen Wednesday’s lower half of the range. A push through $81,180 would be the first higher high since the election-night low.
