Key points

  • Bitcoin closed Thursday at $75,979.9 on Kraken after a session low of $75,100 — under Thursday’s US-close Market Read hour-low of $75,420.5 and under the election-night $75,625.
  • Early Friday it was near $75,631 on Kraken and $75,624 on Coinbase. Overnight lows sat around $75,507.
  • Deribit’s 6 November bitcoin options expiry is due at 08:00 UTC, with about $2.6 billion of open interest still on the book. US October jobs print at 13:30 UTC.

A brutal Thursday. A held handle overnight. An options roll this morning.

Wednesday’s First Print had bitcoin near $80,500 after reclaiming $80,000. That reclaim did not survive the US session.

From $80,800 to $75,100

Thursday’s Kraken range was $75,100 to $80,827.6. The close was $75,979.9 on about 5,103 BTC of volume, heavier than Wednesday’s election-night day.

The break accelerated in the US afternoon. The 15:00 UTC hour printed a low of $75,420.5 — the print that drove our Market Read. The tape did not stop there. The 23:00 UTC hour took the session low to $75,100.

Put simply, the market spent Thursday giving back the post-election reclaim and then undercutting the election-night floor. That is a level break, not a forecast.

Overnight into Friday Europe the range narrowed. Hourly closes from 00:00 through 04:00 UTC sat between about $75,650 and $76,220. Ether was near $2,229, Solana near $89.40 and XRP near $1.205 on Kraken at the same stamp.

Expiry first, jobs later

Deribit bitcoin perpetual open interest was about $703 million at 04:50 UTC, a touch above Thursday morning. Funding stayed small: flat on Deribit, about 0.0047% per eight hours on Binance and about 0.0028% on OKX.

DVOL, Deribit’s one-month implied volatility index, was near 40.7, up from the mid-38s before Thursday’s slide.

The morning event is the 6 November options cut. Deribit’s book still showed about 34,800 bitcoin of open interest across those contracts at our read — roughly $2.6 billion notional at the index — skewed to calls struck well above the spot, with the largest piles at the $82,000 and $85,000 calls. Those calls are far out of the money after Thursday. Expiry removes them; it does not, by itself, buy or sell the coin.

Do not confuse a held overnight tape with a repaired structure. $84,250 — the level this desk still uses for the Brief mood — last saw a daily close on 6 Oct. Every hourly close in the last four hours is still well below it.

Chart to watch

$75,100 from above. A clean break under it on rising volume would open round numbers underneath Thursday’s washout. A reclaim of $76,300, Friday’s high so far, is only the first repair step; $80,000 remains the handle lost on Thursday.
