  • Blur’s website, blur.io, will be deprecated on 12 Nov 2026. The marketplace’s smart contracts stay live on Ethereum.
  • Blur gave no reason. Its monthly trading volume had fallen more than 99% from its 2023 peak, CoinDesk reported.
  • Blend, Blur’s NFT lending product, stops matching new loans on 12 Nov. Borrowers must repay before then or let their loans default; a withdrawal tool follows.

Blur announced the closure in a three-post thread on X on Monday at 19:59 UTC. “This deprecation only applies to the frontend,” it said. “The Blur marketplace protocol will remain operational on-chain, and $BLUR will continue to control its fee switch.”

The fee switch is the setting that would let the marketplace charge trading fees; BLUR holders vote on it.

What happens to Blend loans

Blend lets people borrow against NFTs. Blur says it will stop matching new loans on 12 Nov and that “borrowers have until then to repay their loans or allow them to default.” In a default, the lender typically keeps the NFT used as collateral. After 12 Nov, Blur says it will provide a frontend tool to help users withdraw assets from Blend.

It also warned that the thread is its last word on the matter: “The only official Blur account is @blur_io.” Expect fake “migration” sites.

From the top of the charts

Blur launched in 2022 and overtook OpenSea with fast tools for traders, zero fees and token rewards. In March 2023 it handled about $1.43 billion in monthly volume, more than 70% of Ethereum NFT trading, according to DefiLlama data cited by CoinDesk. By March 2026 monthly volume was under $7 million. Token Terminal records no protocol revenue over the past three years, CoinDesk said.

The closure comes ten days after Blast, the Ethereum layer 2 built by the same founder, announced its own shutdown; Blast users have until 26 Oct to withdraw through its regular interface. It is the latest in a run of NFT-era wind-downs after the Abstract shutdown last week.

BLUR traded at about $0.0118 at 12:35 UTC, down about 35% in 24 hours, according to CoinGecko.

What to watch: which third-party sites keep a working interface for Blur’s contracts after 12 Nov, and the Blend withdrawal tool.
