  • Mastercard and BVNK launched Global Money Platform on Thursday, a single application programming interface (API) that combines multi-currency fiat and stablecoin accounts, real-time conversion, stablecoin-linked cards and payouts through Mastercard Move.
  • The launch is the first major product integration since Mastercard completed its acquisition of BVNK in August 2026. Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Bolt Group and Almond FinTech are named as early integrators.

Mastercard and BVNK said on Thursday that Global Money Platform is available now through BVNK, in a joint press release dated Purchase, New York and London.

The platform is built around what Mastercard calls a global money account: a multi-currency account where fiat balances and stablecoins can sit side by side and convert through one API. Banks, fintechs and enterprises can embed those accounts under their own brand, issue stablecoin-linked cards, and send local-currency payouts into bank accounts via Mastercard Move. Mastercard said Move reaches more than 17 billion endpoints and that card issuing on the platform is available across more than 130 countries. Coverage for stablecoin-funded local payouts is expected to expand to more than 40 currencies across more than 200 countries and territories in 2027, the release said.

“We believe the future of commerce will be built on interoperability across multiple forms of money,” Raj Dhamodharan, Mastercard’s executive vice president for blockchain and digital assets, said in the release. “Global Money Platform brings together Mastercard’s trusted payment infrastructure and reach with BVNK’s stablecoin capabilities.”

What it changes for users and merchants

For end users, nothing switches on overnight in a consumer Mastercard app. The customers here are banks, fintechs and enterprises that build their own products on the API. Merchants and cardholders will see the change only once those partners ship cards, accounts or payout flows that hold and spend stablecoins beside dollars or euros.

The release also flags future support for agentic commerce and tokenized deposits, without dates. BVNK remains the distribution channel: Mastercard said the platform is available now through BVNK, and BVNK’s docs describe the same Global Money Platform stack.

Context

Mastercard completed its acquisition of BVNK in August 2026. Thursday’s launch is the first major public product that stitches BVNK’s stablecoin infrastructure into Mastercard’s network under one roof.

It lands on the same day Europe’s banking supervisor named USDC the first significant e-money token under MiCA and a day after bank-backed Qivalis won a Dutch e-money licence for a planned euro token. Those are issuer and supervisory stories; this one is about card-network rails. The MiCA basics for EU stablecoins sit in what a MiCA-compliant stablecoin is.
