- Sophon, a consumer-focused Ethereum layer 2, will shut down its mainnet on 30 Nov, its team said on Monday.
- The real deadline is 25 Nov: key infrastructure and websites start going offline after that date.
- Liquid SOPH, ETH, USDC and other tokens must be withdrawn by hand; Guardian NFTs, vSOPH and staked SOPH move to Ethereum automatically.
Sophon’s shutdown finally has a date. In a four-post thread on X on Monday evening, at 18:43 UTC, the team said it now plans to switch off Sophon mainnet on 30 Nov 2026, and that “November 25 is the deadline to withdraw your assets.”
Anything left on the chain after that “risk[s] becoming permanently inaccessible,” the team wrote. It asked users to withdraw liquid SOPH, ETH, USDC and other tokens, claim outstanding staking or Guardian rewards, and empty any old farming positions.

“Nov 25 is the date to act, not Nov 30,” Sophon wrote, adding a warning to use only official links and watch for fake migration sites.
What Sophon users need to do before 25 Nov
A layer 2 is a separate network that processes transactions cheaply and settles them on Ethereum. When one closes, tokens on it have to be bridged back out before the machines that run it are switched off.
Sophon’s migration guide points users to a single claim portal, claim.sophon.com, for both rewards and withdrawals. Deposits have been closed since 25 Jun, and Sophon is no longer on LayerZero, so the cross-chain route many SOPH holders used is gone.
The good news for long-time holders: Guardian NFTs, vSOPH and staked SOPH are being recreated or moved on Ethereum for their owners, with no manual migration needed. The final vesting unlock and node reward on Sophon itself took place on 29 Sep, the guide says. It still states that no fixed shutdown date has been set, so the X thread is the newer word.
As always with shutdowns, the scammers arrive before the deadline. A real claim portal never needs your recovery phrase, so keep your recovery phrase to yourself.
Sophon launched as a zero-knowledge-powered layer 2 for consumer apps, from gaming and entertainment to AI, Cointelegraph noted. It raised $60 million in 2024 by selling licences to run network nodes, CoinDesk reported, after a separate $10 million funding round.
The money stayed thin on the chain itself.
DefiLlama counted a peak of about $20.1 million in DeFi deposits on 30 May 2025. By 24 Jun 2026, the day before the wind-down began, that was about $248,000. On Tuesday it stood at roughly $14,800.
In June, the team said running its own blockchain no longer justified the cost and that it would build consumer finance and AI apps on Base instead, Cointelegraph reported. Base is Coinbase’s layer 2; for a recent example of what app builders get there, see Base’s new earn-and-borrow kit for apps.
Sophon’s date lands in a busy shutdown season for consumer chains. Blast told users on 2 Oct to withdraw by 26 Oct, and Pudgy Penguins’ Abstract, which closes on 15 Dec, has its own deadline. Three exits, three different calendars: players with assets on more than one chain should write the dates down.
SOPH was trading at about $0.0017 at 09:51 UTC on Tuesday, down 17% over 24 hours and about 98% below its all-time high of $0.1108 in May 2025, according to CoinGecko.
