At a glance

  • Iole (株式会社イオレ), listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Growth market under code 2334, will sell all 151.21 BTC it holds between 30 Oct and the end of November, according to a company disclosure dated 30 Oct.
  • It expects about ¥1,831 million from the sale and a loss of about ¥254 million, and will put the money into AI data centres and AI computing from early December, the filing says.
  • Iole will keep the HYPE, Hyperliquid’s token, that it began buying in July 2026, according to the disclosure.

Iole’s board approved the sale on 30 Oct, the disclosure says. The bitcoin will be sold on the market through crypto exchanges, including in several tranches. CoinPost also reported the decision.

The numbers

According to the filing, the 151.21 BTC had a book value of ¥2,085 million after being marked to market on 30 Sep. At prices on 30 Oct, Iole expects to receive ¥1,831 million, so it expects a loss of about ¥254 million. It will book that loss in cost of sales in the third quarter of the financial year ending March 2027.

At the ECB reference rates of 30 Oct 2026 (USD/JPY 157.25, USD/EUR 0.89509), the expected proceeds are about $11.6 million or €10.4 million, and the expected loss about $1.6 million or €1.45 million. The book value is about $13.3 million or €11.9 million.

The proceeds and the loss are Iole’s estimates at 30 Oct prices and will change with the bitcoin price, the company says. By our arithmetic, the estimate implies about ¥12.1 million, or roughly $77,000, per bitcoin, against a book value of about ¥13.8 million per coin.

Why Iole is selling

Iole says it sees AI infrastructure and the industries built on it as its target market. “At the same time, cyber threats are expanding rapidly, and responding to risks across the entire digital supply chain has become even more important,” the disclosure says (translated). Against that background, the company says it reviewed the risks and potential returns of holding assets versus investing in its business, and decided to change how it allocates capital.

The money raised from its warrants will be reallocated too. According to the filing, Iole has raised ¥4,120 million from warrants first disclosed on 9 Sep 2025, spending ¥3,520 million on digital assets and ¥600 million on AI data centres.

The planned budget for digital asset purchases falls from ¥8,490 million to ¥7,890 million, and the AI data centre budget rises from ¥2,000 million to ¥2,600 million. Iole expects about ¥7,870 million more from future warrant exercises, most of it still earmarked for digital assets.

Why it matters: Iole is unwinding its whole bitcoin treasury, at a loss, about 14 months after setting up warrants largely to fund crypto buying. In Japan, Metaplanet is instead putting 2,100 BTC into a Nasdaq company, and in the US Strategy paused its own bitcoin buying for a week this month.

What’s still unclear

The disclosure does not say how much HYPE Iole holds, or which exchanges will handle the sale. It does not name any specific cyber threat behind its decision. Iole says it will update the impact on earnings, if it changes, in its second-quarter results on 16 Nov.
