Amundi said on Thursday that it has launched a tokenised share class of a flagship European equity index fund on the public Ethereum blockchain, developed with asset-servicing group CACEIS. The share class stays inside the fund’s existing operating model, and the fund remains available through traditional channels, Amundi said. Cointelegraph, citing the same announcement, identifies the vehicle as Amundi’s STOXX Europe 600 equity index fund.

CryptoWatchDesk last covered European and US tokenization plumbing when DTCC switched on its tokenization service for DTC-held securities and when Janus Henderson put an issuer-sponsored Nasdaq-100 tracker on Stellar. What has changed here is the asset class on Amundi’s own register: after a tokenised money-market share class and stablecoin subscriptions in recent months, the firm is extending the same format to a core European equity index allocation.

The plumbing point matters more than the marketing line. Amundi frames tokenisation as issuing fund units in digital form on a blockchain, and it says CACEIS supplies the technology and infrastructure for those units. That is a transfer-agent and depositary story as much as a crypto story: the equity exposure is still the index fund; the novelty is how the share class is recorded and, potentially, distributed.

Amundi says the step is meant to support digital distribution for institutional clients and platforms, pointing to automation, accessibility, faster settlement and transparency as market infrastructure and regulation mature. It does not disclose the share-class size, on-chain address or a first-trade date in the corporate note.

Cointelegraph separately puts the global tokenized equities market at about $4.24 billion as of 4 Nov, citing RWA.xyz, and notes that the largest products remain concentrated in US-linked names. Amundi’s release does not cite that figure.
